SUMMARY:Water Flooding Management and EOR For Improving Hydrocarbon Recovery
DESCRIPTION:Course & Workshop\nApril 7-11\, 2024 \nInstructor: A. Salem\, P. Eng.\, Ph.D\n  \nWho Should Attend\nThis course is aimed at reservoir\, petroleum and exploitation engineers/technologists\, and geologists who are involved in the area of EOR schemes. \nCourse Objectives\nThis course provides a complete review of the waterflood scheme being the most proven\, lowest cost\, and applicable to various types of reservoirs. The various steps of waterflood implementation including cursory screening of candidate fields\, scheme planning\, design\, and the estimation of the expected recovery using the most common methods in the industry. \nAdditional improvements in oil recovery using the most common secondary and tertiary methods are also discussed. Method mechanism\, limitations\, expected performance\, and estimation of the expected recovery\, are discussed. Design procedures and laboratory tests required are reviewed for the various EOR schemes including the application of CO2\, miscible gas\, steam\, and chemical floods. Interesting class examples using actual field data will be presented. A detailed course hand-out which is an excellent reference\, will be provided. \n \nCourse Agenda\nPetroleum Geology: \n\nMain elements of petroleum reservoirs: hydrocarbon migration & traps\n \nDepositional environment and impact on reservoir quality\n \nReservoir facies and heterogeneity\n\nRock Properties: \n\nPorosity types\, permeability: relative\, absolute\, effective\n \nRock wettability and capillary pressure\n \n\nFluid Properties: \n\nHydrocarbon classifications\n \nFluid behaviors; oil and gas physical properties (class problem)\n \nFluid sampling and PVT analysis\n\nReserves Determination: \n\nVolumetric\, material balance\, and probabilistic methods (class problem)\n \nDecline analysis\n \nEmpirical method (Russian method !)\n\n \nWaterflood Schemes: \n\nReview and screening of EOR schemes\n \nWaterflood displacement mechansim (fractional flow\, Buckley Leverett) Scheme planning and design Factors that impact oil recovery\n \nPrediction of recovery effeciency using Dykstra and Parsons\, Stiles method and other empirical techniques\n\nEOR schemes: \n\nScheme screening and limitations\n \nLaboratory tests to define key parameters to optimize scheme design\n \nPhysical properties of injected fluids\n \nExpected incremental oil recovery\n \nScheme planning and design\n \nPerformance monitoring\n \n\nCO2 flooding \nGas miscible flooding \nChemical flooding \nSteam flooding \n \nLocation\nFirst day will be held at the Holiday Inn Maadi Hotel\, in Cairo.
