SUMMARY:Field Seminar Southern Gulf of Suez and Northern Red Sea\, Egypt Petroleum System\, Plays\, Structures and Reservoirs
DESCRIPTION:Course & Field  Trip\nMarch 19-23\, 2023 \nInstructor : Dr. M. Darwish & Dr. Raed Badr \n  \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\nGeologists\, Geophysicists\, Reservoir engineers\, supervisors and managers \nCourse Organization\nThis course is tailored to provide and support an in-depth working knowledge considering the petroleum systems elements in the Gulf of Suez and northern Red Sea region. Having in consideration the rifting stages and sediment fill within the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Province\, highlighting the pre- and syn-rift sequences\, structural style\, reservoirs and source rock. \nThis region will be shown and presented through the main tectono-stratigraphic events and their impact on accommodation and facies preservation. The sequence stratigraphic framework will be addressed through well defined field analogues.  Petroleum Systems including source/reservoir and trap styles will be discussed. \n \nField Trip location Map \nCourse & Field Seminar Outlines\nDay -1:  Travelling Cairo – Quseir with short Stops. \nMeeting Point: Infront of EREX Office at 6.00am\, El Salam Tower\, 115 Misr Helwan Street\, Maadi\, Cairo. \nOn Road From Cairo to Quseir. \nThe first day covers the onshore geology of the western side of Gulf of Suez\, Pre-Rift and Syn-Rift Succession along the main Galala Road (Short Stops for Paleozoic\, Triassic\, Cretaceous and Eocene new road cuts) \nZaafarana Accommodation Zone where Zaafarana (Warda) Oil Field encompassing Miocene Clastics derived from the main Wadi Araba incised systems. \n  \nSt. Paul area\,  depending on timing to reach Quseir before Sunset\, as an example of Pre-Rift  (N-S) Structural Patterns where Nubia-type sandstones are seen as potential sedimentologic. Structural plays in the offshore settings.  On Road Issran Field (Oil from fractured carbonates\, Miocene and Eocene ) will be overviewed. \n(Overnight at Quseir)  \nDay 2:  Quseir area  (Sourthern Reaches of Gebel Duwi) \n\nWadi Ambagy across Pre-Cambrian Basement rocks\, that onlapped by the Syn-Rift Miocene Systems.\nBasement/Nubia sandstones\, outcrops and contacts.\nUpper Cretaceous-Lower Tertiary sequences\nDuwi Phosphates\nDakhla shales (oil source rocks)\nTarawan chalk\nThebes Formation (deep water turbidites)\n\n(Overnight at Quseir)  \nDay 3: Quseir – Safaga (northern reaches of Gebel Duwi) \n\nUm El Huetat area\nPre-Rift – Syn-Rift analogues and facies models.\nModel of alluvial fan/fan delta complex\, developed during the different stages of eustatic sea level falls (Possible grading to deep water fan system\, offshore part)\n\n(Overnight at Quseir)  \nDay 4: Wadi Hamadat (South of Quseir) \n  \nAn Example of doubly plunging hanging-wall synclines. \nPre-Rift sequences enhanced the accommodation of fault progradation folding (Khalil and McClay\, 2002). \n  \nDay 5:  Travelling Day back to Cairo\, stop at southern reaches of Gebel El Zeit to be exposed on Gemsa oilseeps. \n  \nNumber of Participants:  (15 persons)\, 3 Persons in each car. \nEREX (3 persons; 2 instructors and one logistics) plus vehicle’s Drivers \n  \nLOCATION\nQuseir Town\, Red Sea. The participants will drive to Cairo-Quseir-Red Sea in the first day and the return will be in afternoon of the last day. \n  \nCOURSE FEES\nInclusive of All Inclusive Accommodation in Flamenco Beach Hotel Quseir\, refreshment and lunch at the field. Accommodation in single rooms. Transport by 4X4 vehicles to/from Cairo-Quseir-Red Sea/Return\, three persons per car.. \n  \nThe cost is includes: \n\nThe preparation and reproduction of the guide book for the theoretical part and field seminar.\nFees for the Instructors and logistics arrangements.\nThe issue of the Necessary military and desert permits.\nHotel accommodation in single rooms on All Inclusive.\nField lunch and refreshments.\n\n  \nNote:   \n\nIt is advised to get approval to the earliest convenience to apply for the military and desert permits and to prepare the Field Trip manual\, and arrange hotel booking and other logistics.\nWe need to get the ID card copy\, Mobile number and one photo for each participant.\nWe will advise the participants about the necessary safety requirements before the field trip.\n\n  \nINSTRUCTOR PROFILE\n DR. M. DARWISH \nHas obtained his B.Sc. in 1968 from Cairo University and Ph.D. in 1979 from Bucharest University. He is EREX Consultant for Sedimentology and Professor in Cairo University for Sedimentology and Petroleum Geology.  Dr. Darwish has extensive experience on the Gulf of Suez\, Red Sea either in stratigraphic studies\,  geological field trips or supervising MSc and Ph.D Thesis. During the last thirty years\, Dr. Darwish has offered appreciated consulting services with EREX on field geology\, sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy for the oil companies in Egypt\, Sudan\, Libya\, Yemen\, Chad\, Mauretania\, India and others. \n  \nDr. RAED BADR \nSenior Sedimentologist\, obtained B.SC on geology in 2008 and Ph.D on 2021 from Cairo University. He is a Lecturer at Geology department\, Faculty of Science\, Cairo University. Teaching Sedimentary petrology\, Sedimentology\, Field Geology\, Subsurface geology\, Sedimentary basin analysis\, Sequence stratigraphy\, Geostatistics\, Clay mineralogy\, Petroleum Geology\, Photogeology and Field mapping. He works as a Sedimentologist and Reservoir Geologist at EREX Petroleum Consultants (EREX) since September 2013 until now. He has worked on several studies for many oil and gas companies in Egypt in the Western Desert\, Gulf of Suez\, Nile Delta and South Sudan. Experience also includes sedimentary facies analysis for surface and subsurface successions\, High resolution sequence stratigraphy of clastic and carbonate sequences\, petrography\, reservoir characterization and rock typing and FMI interpretation for several projects in the Western Desert and Nile Delta.
