COURSE CONTENTS

With the vast increase in the number of companies active internationally during the past five years, and the resulting intensive acquisition and divestment "deal flow", this course on the real-world aspects of farming-in and farming-out will appeal to explorationists, commercial and legal personnel. Emphasis is on the practical aspects of the farmout process, including the negotiating and dealing with joint venture partners. Simulations between "buyers" and "sellers" as well as representatives of NOC's are a popular feature of this course, as is the checklist for exploration farmins. Cross-cultural negotiation techniques are examined with appropriate classroom role playing.

The AIPN agreements are used as the basis for the course, with appropriate "fit-for-purpose" modifications for different circumstances.

INSTRUCTOR PROFILE

Peter Cockcroft brings the unique combination of managing successful new business identification, development, as well as the implementation of international energy projects over the past thirty years.

Considered an expert on the energy sector, he is a confidante of various Ministers and has advised different Heads of State in the Asian Region.

His international experience is extensive - he has been a resident country manager in six different countries for many oil and gas companies, ranging from majors to independents.

He has also worked for the National Oil Companies of Indonesia and Korea.

During the past 20 years, he has been directly in charge of various commercially successful new business initiatives, including oil discoveries in Thailand and Philippines, oilfield developments in Indonesia, a new gas field/power plant project in Indonesia, as well as commercializing gas fields in Pakistan.

Originally a geologist (University of Sydney), he was honoured as a 2004 - 2005 Distinguished Lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers on the topic of International Risk Management. From 2004 until 2007, he was appointed as a Visiting Research fellow of the Institute of South East Asian Studies..

He is a Certified Petroleum Geologist, Life Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and Life Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. He currently sits on the Board of four oil and gas companies, as well as the Energy Advisor to the Prime Minister of East Timor.
